Locals fear there could be an accident at the Browside site in Everton

Teenagers have been photographed playing on a stalled development site in north Liverpool.

A local resident photographed two young men who were trespassing on the Browside site in Everton earlier this week. Building activity stalled on the site last year.

A spokesman for The Mount Group who are behind the scheme said their security team had dealt with an incident earlier this week. The spokesman said the scheme had been delayed while they updated fire design specifications. The spokesman added that work was due to start again this week.

The photographs sent into the ECHO show two young men climbing up and down the site's steel frame. Locals are concerned that there could be an accident at the site soon.

Local man Kevin Robinson-Hale, who is standing as a Green Party candidate in the 2023 local elections, said: "It is deeply worrying that after the issues around the Fox Street site the Browside scheme has become a playground for kids.

"They have been throwing stones and using the steel structure as a climbing frame. It is only a matter of time before there is a serious injury or worse. I am contacted weekly by residents who live near the site who express their concerns about the site."

Locals told the ECHO that police had been called out to the site earlier this week, but the force said they had no record of any incidents at Browside.

The Mount Group are behind plans to build two residential blocks providing around 70 new units and underground parking on the corner of Everton Brow. The site was cleared following the demolition of the John F Kennedy Heights in 1999.

There area a number of controversial developments in the Everton area, including the Fox Street scheme which was partially completed. The council was forced to issue a number of enforcement and prohibition notices after the site failed to meet building and safety standards.

A spokesperson for the Mount Group said: "The scheme has been delayed due to updating the fire design to meet EWS1 requirements and the lead in time for materials. The fitout works to the upper floors are due to recommence next week."
